Ascend’s Bike Fits: World-Class Technology Right in Missoula
If you’ve ever finished a ride with numb hands, sore back, saddle pain or that familiar “something feels off” feeling, you already know: your bike fit matters. Comfort, performance, injury prevention and longevity on the bike all start with how your body interacts with your bike.
At Ascend Sports Medicine, we offer one of the most advanced bike fitting service in the Inland Northwest, designed for all riders including gravel enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and competitive cyclists. Our fits go far beyond a standard shop fit or laser adjustment. Dr. Rob Amrine brings a rare combination of sports medicine expertise, biomechanical analysis, and technology that you can’t find anywhere else in the region.
The result is a fit that is more precise, more personalized, and more aligned with your goals.
What Makes Our Fits Truly Different:
Saddle Pressure Mapping
We offer a real-time GebioMized saddle pressure analysis. This system shows exactly how your pelvis interacts with the saddle, helping resolve saddle pain, numbness, low-back discomfort, asymmetries, and challenges with more aggressive riding positions.
3D Motion Capture + High-Speed Video Analysis
We use VelogicFit, which provides multi-camera motion capture of you on the bike and accurate measurements of all your key fit angles. Comparable systems only exist in Boise or Canada, making this level of analysis unique in our region.
Physician Expertise
As a sports medicine physician, Dr. Amrine evaluates your entire body—not just your bike position. Mobility, strength, movement patterns, and injury history are all considered to ensure your fit supports long-term health, comfort, and performance.
What a Comprehensive Ascend Bike Fit Includes
Our fits take about three hours because they’re comprehensive and built around you. Each session includes:
Detailed Interview + History: We start with a conversation about your cycling background, goals, discomforts, previous injuries, training volume, and the type of riding you enjoy. Understanding your history and what you want from your bike fit guides everything that follows.
Focused Physical Assessment: After the interview, we evaluate hip mobility, hamstring and quad flexibility, core strength, leg length discrepancies, and overall movement patterns to understand how your body influences your riding position.
Foot and Cleat Evaluation: We evaluate arch height, fore-aft cleat positioning, alignment, stance width, and power transfer. Small changes here often lead to significant gains in comfort and efficiency.
High-Speed Multi-Camera Video Analysis: Once you are on the bike, we use VelogicFit to record your movement from multiple angles. This allows us to examine knee tracking, hip and torso movement, reach and posture, cadence changes, and pedal stroke efficiency. The system also measures your bike angles with millimeter accuracy.
GebioMized Saddle Pressure Mapping: We place a pressure sensor on your saddle to analyze your contact points in real time. Real-time pressure data reveals contact points, pressure hotspots, and pelvic asymmetries. Saddle height, tilt, and fore-aft position are adjusted in fine increments to optimize comfort and power.
Final Fit and Next Steps: You receive your final bike measurements including seat height, fore-aft, tilt, reach, stack, drop, cleat positions, and saddle recommendations. We also provide guidance on mobility or strength work that supports your ideal riding position.
